SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team had four players score in double figures led by
Jasmine Patterson's season high of 15 points to roll to a 65-48 non-conference win over McMurry at the Junell Center.
The Belles (2-5) shot 41.9-percent from the field while holding McMurry (1-7) to just 28.3-percent shooting. ASU was able to outrebound the War Hawks 50-37 and force a season-high 13 turnovers. The Belles dominated in the paint by a score of 32-8 and received 27 points from the bench.
Jasmine Patterson was perfect from the floor hitting all seven shots for a season-high 15 points. Twin sister
Jackie Patterson scored 12 points while
Jasmine Caston and
Amanda Weaver added 11 and 10, respectively.
Caston started the game with a 3-pointer as the Belles opened the game on a 17-5 run.
Jasmine Patterson scored six of her team high 15 points in the first eight minutes of the game.
KeAnna Kelly hit a jumper in the lane to start anther ASU run with the Belles up 27-12. The Patterson sisters would score nine points on the 15-5 run to put the Belles up 40-17 going in at the half.
Jasmine Patterson and Caston each scored 11 in the first half while Patterson also grabbed five rebounds. The Belles shot 53.1-percent in the first half and forced eight turnovers in the first half.
The War Hawks started the second half outscoring ASU 5-1 through the first five minutes to cut the lead to 42-22.
Jackie Patterson hit a jumper and Weaver hit one of her two 3-pointers to extend the lead to 47-24. McMurry would continue to whittle at the Belles lead including a 14-8 run late in the second half. Weaver scored eight of her 11 points in the second half to seal the victory for ASU.
A total of 11 Belles played at least 10 minutes in the game.
McMurry was led by Taylor Russell's 13 points while Haley Welch scored 10 points. Â
The Belles will return to action this Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. against St. Edward's at the Junell Center.
