LAWTON, Okla., - The Angelo State women's basketball team lost to Cameron 79-54 in Lawon, Oka., on Saturday afternoon.
The Belles (8-17, 3-12 LSC) were limited to 31.4-percent from the floor while the Aggies (15-9, 12-3 LSC) shot 52.5-percent from the field including 43.8-percent from the 3-point line. Cameron out rebounded ASU 40-28 and scored
Shauna Coleman scored 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field.
KeAnna Kelly added 10 points while
Diamalises Rivera scored nine.
Cameron jumped out to a 10-2 lead through the first three minutes of the game. A 3-pointer by
Michelle Rosewell cut the lead to five but back-to-back layups by the Aggies made it 14-5 with 14:37 to go in the first half. ASU would trim the lead to seven points six different times over the next five minutes until a 4-1 run at the 8:47 mark trimmed the lead down to 25-20. Rivera sparked the run and Coleman sunk two free throws.
The Aggies extended the lead back to 10 with five-straight points to go up 30-20. CU pushed its lead to 18 with a 13-0 run to end the half. The Belles were held scoreless over the final 3:58 of the first half.
Coleman and Rivera each scored seven first half points. ASU made only 29.2-percent in the first half and went 1-for-6 from behind the arc. The Aggies sunk 56.7-percent from the field and grabbed 20 rebounds.
The Belles would chip away in the second half. Coleman hit a layup followed by three free throws from Kelly to trim the deficit to 48-31.The closest ASU would get is 16 in the second half the first after Kelly's three free throws at the 16:24 mark and the second was after a Rivera layup with 13:50 to go. Cameron responded with an 8-2 run to take a 66-44 lead with 9:02 left to play. ASU would outscore Cameron 9-6 over the next three minutes but Cameron ended the game on a 7-1 run to make the final 79-54
Four Aggies scored in double figures led by Brandi Leal's 18 points. Jazzmine Robinson, Markita Zeigler and DJ Vallier each added 12.
The Belles will return home for the regular-season finale on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. against Texas A&M-Kingsville.Â
