DENTON, Texas – Heavy rainfall in the area forced the cancellation of the final two games of the No. 6 Angelo State softball Lone Star Conference series with Texas Woman's and ended game two, started the night before, in a tie.
The Rambelles move to 22-5-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the LSC. It is the first tie in program history for Angelo State. Texas Woman's is now 12-13-1 and 4-3-1 in the LSC.
ASU won the first game of the series 8-1.
Brandy Marlett held TWU to just one run on three hits for the freshman's 12
th win of the season.
Lanie Robinson went 2 for 4 at the plate and drove in three runs while
Camry Weinheimer added two RBIs.
Game two was tied at five in the top of the eighth inning on Friday night when weather forced the game to be postponed. The Rambelles were down 4-1 after two innings but chipped away at the Pioneers lead with plate discipline. A double by Weinheimer scored Urbany and Robinson and
Megan Granado each drew bases loaded walks to tie the game in the fifth. Five of ASU's season-high nine walks came in the fifth inning.    Â
Urbany had given ASU a 5-4 lead in the top of the sixth with her eighth home run of the year to left field but TWU answered with a solo home run from Kendra Sancet.
The Rambelles next games will be a Lone Star Conference four-game series with Tarleton State at Mayer Field starting on Friday, March 27.Â
