WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The No. 12 Angelo State softball team won the opening game of a four game Lone Star Conference series 10-4 against Midwestern State but dropped game two of the doubleheader 8-3 on Friday at Mustangs Park.
The Rambelles (25-8-1, 10-7-1 LSC) scored 10 runs on 10 hits in game one but was held to three runs on five hits in the nightcap. Midwestern State (17-14, 4-10 LSC) was limited to five hits in game two but racked up eight runs and 12 hits in game two.
Ciara Sheppard had the best day at the plate going 2-for-4 with one double, two runs scored and one RBI.
Tina Cisneros led ASU with four RBIs and scored twice.
Brandy Marlett struck out five and limited the Mustangs to five hits in game one.
ASU used small ball in game one as the wind was blowing right in the hitter's faces. The Rambelles had six sacrifice hits including two that scored a run from third.
Ciara Sheppard led the third inning off with a single to right center. The freshman would score on a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt by
Tina Cisneros for the first run of the game. Cisneros would score after
Rachel Moore drew a bases loaded walk.
Three more runs came in the fifth inning after a MSU run in the bottom of the third. One run was courtesy of a sacrifice squeeze bunt from
Micherie Koria.
Lanie Robinson hit a single up the middle to lead off the inning and
Lauryn Donnelly came in to pinch run. The redshirt freshman used
Micherie Koria's squeeze bunt to make it 3-1.
Megan Granado brought home
Madison Greenwell and Koria with a single up the middle to extend the lead to 5-1.
MSU made it interesting in the bottom of the fourth with three runs on three hits including a solo home run from Katelyn Vinson off
Brandy Marlett. Â The freshman would limit MSU to just four hits with one coming in the first, three in the fourth and one in the fifth. The Henderson, Nev., native moved to 14-2 and struck out five in the complete game win.
The Rambelles added a run in the sixth on a RBI from Cisneros and cushioned the advantage with four runs in the top of the seventh.

Kelly Johnson from second base on a single up the middle. Sheppard added an RBI to her total driving home. Cisneros would add two more RBIS with a single to right field that scored Robinson and Sheppard for the final 10-4 victory.
ASU took an early 1-0 lead after the first inning in game two. Cisneros hit a double to left field and scored on an errant throw by the center fielder on a single by Granado. The Mustangs responded in the bottom of the third with five runs on six hits to take a 5-1 advantage.
The Rambelles answered with two runs in the fourth. A bases loaded single by Robinson scored Granado and Urbany to cut the deficit to 5-3. ASU was held to just two in the fourth after Tayler Jerrick struck out the final two batters of the inning.
TASU was held hitless over the final three innings as Jerrick limited the Rambelles to three runs on five hits and struck out five.
MSU added three more runs off Urbany in the sixth on four hits. Urbany is now 11-6 on the season after allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 12 hits.
The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow at Mustangs Park starting at 1 p.m.
