SAN ANGELO – The No. 14 Angelo State softball team used a walk-off two RBI-double from
Kenedy Urbany to sweep a non-conference doubleheader 10-2 and 4-3 from UTPB on Wednesday at Mayer Field.
The Rambelles (27-10-1) broke a three game losing streak and improved to 15-5 at Mayer Field on the season. UTPB (6-31) was held to five runs of which only two were earned.
ASU was down 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning and only managed three hits over six innings.
Amber Rendon was hit by a pitch on the very first inning to get a runner on base.
Megan Granado drove in
Ambra Hill, who re-entered for Rendon, to cut the lead to 3-2.
Tina Cisneros hit a sky-high fly ball that dropped for a double to put runners and second and third. Urbany came through with a walk-off two-RBI double to win the game.
UTPB scored an unearned run in the third.
Rachel Moore tied the game in the fourth scoring on an error from second base. The Falcons regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI single from Nikkie Salazar and extended it in the sixth to 3-1 on a RBI single form Adrianna Berzoza.
Brandy Marlett picked up her 15
th win of the season giving up three runs, one earned, on four hits. It was the freshman's 17
th complete game of the season. She struck out eight to increase her season total to 122.
The Rambelle bats came out in game one of the series. ASU scored 10 runs on 12 hits in the six inning run-rule victory. The 12 hits and 10 hits are the most since scoring 12 off 14 hits against Eastern New Mexico on March 7.
Granado led the game off with her 12th double of the season to left field and scored on a RBI-single from Urbany for an early 1-0 advantage. UTPB took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning with two runs off three hits. ASU responded with two runs in bottom of the inning. Cisneros singled and Urbany drove home pinch runner Brook Mangold with a double.
The Rambelles put the game away in the bottom of the sixth inning with two doubles that brought in six runs. A total of seven runs on six hits were scored and the game was capped off with a game ending three-run double by
Camry Weinheimer to enforce the run-rule. Cisneros hit a three-run double and Greenwell extended her career long hitting streak to 14 games with a RBI single.
Micherie Koria, Granado and Moore each added singles as well.
Urbany limited the Falcons to two runs on seven hits for her 12
th victory of the season. It is the 11
th complete game of the season for the sophomore.
The Rambelles will travel to face Texas A&M-International this weekend in Laredo.
