ODESSA, Texas – The Angelo State softball team swept a doubleheader from UTPB 6-2 and 8-2 on the road on Wednesday evening.
The Rambelles improve to 10-3 on the season while UTPB falls to 1-5. ASU combined for 20 hits in the two games with four doubles. Kenedy Urbany, who was game one winner in the circle, and Alexis Evans each went 4-for-7 at the plate with three RBIs.
"We hit a lot of line drive today and really played great defense," Angelo State head softball coach Travis Scott said. "Brook Mangold and Ciara Sheppard were stellar in the field and all three pitchers threw well tonight. "
ASU was down in the first game 1-0 and were hitless going into the fourth inning. Bailey Wallace quickly broke up the no-hitter with a double to center. Urbany moved her to third and Wallace put ASU on the board by scoring on a wild pitch. Evans would give the Rambelles the lead with a single up the middle to bring in Urbany for a 2-1 lead.
 The scoring continued in the fifth. Ambra Hill and Brooke Mangold started the inning with back-to-back walks. Wallace would load the bases with a single through the right side to bring Urbany to the plate. Urbany singled up the middle to score two followed by Evans adding another RBI with her seconds straight single. Becky Wilhelm made it 6-1 with a sacrifice fly playing Urbany.
UTPB scored a run off Urbany in the fifth but Brandy Marlett came in to close the door. Urbany picked up her fifth win of the season in 4.1 innings pitched. The junior gave up eight hits but only two runs. Marlett threw 2.2 innings and didn't allow a hit or a run while striking out three.
In game two, ASU was down 1-0 after the first inning but answered in the top of the second. Becky Wilhelm drew a walk to start the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch. The freshman moved to third on a fielder's choice and Riley Adams helped her own cause laying down a squeeze bunt to tie the game at one.
UTPB regained the lead off Adams with a run in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead. Adams, in her first collegiate start, threw 4.0 innings and only allowed two hits and two earned runs.
The Belles provided run support in the fourth inning. Wilhelm led off the inning with a double down the right field line. With runners at first and second, Adams added two more RBIs with a double to centerfield to put ASU on top 3-2. Brooke Mangold singled through the right side to score Adams and a double by Urbany made it 7-2 after the fourth.
Adams stood to earn her first win throwing a scoreless fourth. Marlett would enter in relief for the second-straight game and throw 3.0 scoreless innings. The sophomore earned her second save of the year and struck out three batters.
ASU would tack on a run in the sixth as Evans scored on a Katlyn Herzog sacrifice fly for the final score of 8-2.
The Rambelles will head to Austin to face St. Edward's in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 20 starting at 12 p.m.Â
