GOLDEN, Colorado – The Angelo State baseball dropped its final game (13-5) and the series (3-1) to the Colorado School of Mines on Sunday afternoon in Golden, Colorado.
The Rams fall to 7-6 on the year with the loss and were out 16-to-9 by the Orediggers.
Starting pitcher Kellen Rholl allowed six runs, five of which were earned, in four innings of work. He gave up seven hits striking out one.
ASU scored its first run in the top of the third as Christian Abilla hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Michael Urquidi, which made the score 2-1 in favor of CSM. Then in the fourth, a Tyler Coolbaugh RBI single and Omar Martinez RBI double plated another two runs for the Rams. With the Colorado School of Mines leading 12-3 in the top of the eighth, David Goggin knocked a double to right center that would score Sam Kohler. Finally, Urquidi cranked a solo homer to the right side, but the Orediggers would hold off the Rams to take the game and the series. Â Â Â
Kenton Schroter, Brett Maggard, Jhonatan Del Rosario and Dustin Angiel all entered the game in relief. Â They combined to strike out two and allowed seven runs, four of which were earned, off of nine hits.
The Rams will conclude its month long road tour with a four game series in Portales, New Mexico as they face Eastern New Mexico. Game one of the series is scheduled to start on Friday, March 4 at 6 p.m. CST. Â Â
