SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State soccer team returns home after two weeks on the road to host Texas Permian Basin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night at the ASU Soccer Field. Children eighth grade and under will get into the game for free when accompanied by an adult.Â
The Belles (9-2-1, 6-1-1 LSC) posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time all season in their last two games against Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M, and they have not allowed a goal in the last 212 minutes.
Leading the defense is goalkeeper Sammy Cude, who, has played all but nine minutes in goal this season and center back Callie Smith, who has played the most minutes of any field player.
Cude has made 66 saves on the year, already surpassing her total from the 2016 season, and the California native has a goals against average of just 1.15. Her save percentage of .825 is third best in the LSC. Â
Also playing on the ASU back line this season has been Meagan Denn, Marissa Brezgiel, Molly Warren, Kyah Carlsen, Janessa Dunbar, Kylie Deel and Amber Norris.
Offensively, the Belles have been the best in the Lone Star Conference and one of the top teams in the country. Currently, ASU is averaging 2.25 goals per game and has three of the top ten point scorers in the conference.
Sophomore Trenadey Scott leads the way, having scored 11 goals and assisted three other this season. She is the only player in the LSC with an average of more than two points per game.
Cassandra Moosburger and Elizabeth Rodriguez are both in the top 10 in the conference in points as well, at No. 4 and No. 10, respectively. Moosburger has scored the second most goals on the team with five and she also has a pair of assists. Rodriguez has three goals this season as well as two assists.
Mackenzie Broderick has also scored three times this season and helped on one goal for a seven total points. Five other Belles have scored, including Analise Watson, Molly Warren, Janessa Dunbar, Tiffany Dang and Avery McNeme.
McNeme is also tied for the team lead in assists with three. Trenadey Scott also has three, as does Megan Allen.
The Falcons come into the matchup with just one win all season and 11 losses. The lone win was a 1-0 overtime victory against Eastern New Mexico. UTPB goalkeeper Chenoa Crites leads the conference in saves this season with 90, but the Falcons have still given up more than two goals per game.
