SAN ANGELO - Angelo State forward Trenadey Scott recorded the first hat trick of her career Wednesday night at the ASU Soccer Field as ASU topped Texas Permian Basin 4-0.
The Belles (10-2-1, 7-1-1 LSC) earned their third straight shutout in the win and have now kept opponents scoreless for 302 consecutive minutes.
"I was pleased with getting another shutout, because that's something we struggled with," Angelo State Head Soccer Coach Travis McCorkle said. "We had a lot of players get forward and create some chances as well did a pretty good job of finishing ."
Midfielder Analise Watson actually found the back of the net first in the game, scoring just over two minutes in. The goal came on a corner kick that Megan Allen took, and Watson redirected the ball right past the goalkeeper to open the scoring.
The assist from Allen was her fourth of the season, moving her into first place on the team.
The Belles doubled the lead just five minutes later as Scott scored her first goal of the night. Defender Meagan Denn sent a pass to Scott from midfield as Scott ran in behind the UTPB defenders. She took the ball wide right of the goal and fired hit high past the goalkeeper.
Denn's assist was the second of the season for the freshman.
Scott scored once more before the end of the first half, in the 25th minute. Cassandra Moosburger started the scoring opportunity, taking the ball into the penalty area and firing off a shot that the UTPB goalkeeper blocked. Scott collected the rebound and put it in the back of the net.
Angelo State went into halftime with the score there, leading Texas Permian Basin 3-0.
In the second half, the Belles scored just one goal, but continued to play strong defense and keep the Falcons from scoring. Overall, ASU's defense allowed just two shots, neither of which came in the second half.
Goalkeeper Sammy Cude made saves on both of the shots, earning her 10th win of the season as well. She was replaced in the final 12 minutes by Elyssia Lucio, who continue to keep UTPB from scoring.
Contributors to the ASU back line for the night were Callie Smith, Meagan Denn, Marissa Brezgiel, Kyah Carlsen, Cecilia Guerrero, Molly Warren and Kylie Deel.
Scott finally got her third goal in the 87th minute of the match. The Fort Worth native received a pass outside the box and beat her defender, shooting the ball past the goalkeeper's ankles on the right side.
The hat trick was the first for an ASU player since Sierra Anderson scored three times against UTPB on September 20, 2015.
"It feels really good and I'm glad to have gotten the hat trick, but I couldn't have done it without my teammates," Scott said. "They did a good job winning balls and keeping possession and just keeping the energy up throughout the game."
Several other Belles created scoring chances on the night as ASU took a season-high 28 shots, 14 of which were on goal. Scott led the team in shots, followed by Allen with three, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Morgan Sibson, Ally Warren and Analise Watson with two, and Loni Byers, Mackenzie Broderick, Callie Smith, Molly Warren and Cassandra Moosburger with one each.
The Belles will be at home once more again this week, taking on No. 11 Midwestern State at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the ASU Soccer Field.
