STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The No. 1 Angelo State softball team dropped its first back-to-back games of the season to Tarleton State 2-0 and 4-0 on Friday in Stephenville.
The Rambelles (35-4, 14-3 LSC) stranded a combined 15 runners in the two games and have been held scoreless in the last 18 innings. The TexAnns (29-13, 13-7 LSC) outhit ASU 6-5 in the second game and one gave up one walk in 14.0 innings.
ASU had a chance early in game one as
Danae Bina stole second and third with only one out. TSU's Haley Freyman struck out the next two batters to end the threat in the second.
The Rambelles had runners on the corners in the fourth but Freyman induced a fly ball to end the top of the fourth.
Tarleton State was able to score one in the fifth with back-to-back hits off ASU starter
Brandy Marlett. ASU had a chance to tie it in the sixth with a runner on third with two outs. The runner was left stranded to end the threat.
The TexAnns added another run in the sixth to make it 2-0 and Freyman closed the game out sitting ASU down in order to secure the win. Marlett falls to 17-3 on the season after only giving up two runs on four hits in six innings of work.
Kenedy Urbany hit a double in the first inning of game two and
Taegan Kirk sent a ball to left field but it was caught for the third out of the inning.
Tarleton State took a 2-0 lead in game two in the second inning off two unearned runs.
ASU would try to answer in the fifth as
Amanda Ramage and
Becky Wilhelm hit back-to-back single with only one out. Freyman once again stranded both runners. The TexAnns added two more runs in the fifth off three hits.
ASU would get a runner on in the sixth and seventh but couldn't score. Urbany was credited with her first loss of the season giving up four runs, two earned, on six hits.
The Rambelles will play the series finale at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Stephenville.
