COMMMERCE, TEXAS - The Angelo State soccer team took its first loss of the 2017 season on Sunday afternoon in Commerce, Texas, falling 1-0 to Florida Tech.
The Belles moved to 1-1 on the season with the loss after a 3-0 win against Central Oklahoma on Friday and allowed their first goal of the season in the game.
Florida Tech scored the game's only goal late in the first half, with Marian Munoz finding the back of the net in the 32nd minute. Angelo State junior Megan Allen nearly tied the game up less than 10 minutes later, but the shot was saved by the Cougar goalkeeper.
ASU attempted to tie the game up in the late, out-shooting the Cougars 6-4 in the second half and drawing four corner kicks, but was unable to break through. Freshman Avery McNeme nearly got her first-ever collegiate goal to tie the game, but it was called back for offside. Senior Loni Byers also came close to pulling things even twice in the second half with a pair of shots that were just off target.
Overall, the Belles got off ten shots, led by sophomore forward Trenadey Scott who had four. Six other Angelo State players also had shots in the game.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sammy Cude took her first loss of the season by allowing the lone goal, but the California native also tied her career high with eight saves in the match. Cude also notched eight saves in 2016 against Eastern New Mexico, and she is now 11-6-2 in here career at ASU.
The Belles will be on the road for their next two matches as well, taking on Fort Lewis at 1:30 p.m. CST on Friday in Durango, Colorado and then facing New Mexico Highlands at 12 p.m. CST on Sunday in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Â
