Belles push winning streak to eight, defeat TAMUK 3-1

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The Angelo State women's volleyball team extended their winning streak to eight matches by defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville 3-1 (25-12, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20) Tuesday evening.

"Tonight we got a quality road win for our squad over a really talented Kingsville team," Angelo State head volleyball coach Chuck Waddington said. "I'm proud of my team for making the necessary adjustments and grinding out a win."

The Belles started out the match with a dominant first set, stretching their lead to double digits early and never letting up as Kingsville hit .000 for the set. The second set was less kind to the Belles, as TAMUK led 16-7 and cruised to the finish line.

However, the third set was a back and forth affair, with neither team gaining much ground. The set was tied 20-20 when the Belles went on a 5-2 run to close it out and take a 2-1 lead. The fourth set was much of the same, as the teams were tied at 19 before the Belles went on a 6-1 run punctuated by a Makenzie Griffin kill to close out the match.

Offensively, the Belles were led by Sundara Chinn, who posted 13 kills on the evening. She added in 12 digs for her fifth double double of the season. Audrey Fragniere also got into double digits with 10 kills on the evening, and Baleigh Allen and Sophia Berg each posted seven.

Defensively, the Belles were led at the net by Baleigh Allen, who increased her team leading total with five on the evening. Sophia Berg and Sundara Chinn each added three. Setter Meghan Parker led four Belles in double digits in digs with 18. Libero Chloe Robinson and Chinn posted 12, and Morgan Preston added 10. Parker added 32 assists for her 12th double double of the year.

The Belles will be in action again on the road this coming weekend as they take on Texas Woman's and Texas A&M-Commerce.
