SAN ANGELOÂ -Â The Angelo State baseball team lost 6-3 to West Texas A&M in its regular season finale Sunday afternoon at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
The Rams (33-17, 14-10 LSC) got eight hits in the game but had just one go for extra bases and allowed the Buffs eight free baserunners by way of walks and hit-by-pitches.
ASU got on the board first for the third time in the series, with two runs in the third inning. Parker Bramlett led off with a single up the middle, advancing to second on an error as the WT catcher tried to pick him off.
Michael Urquidi followed with a walk before Bradley Mathiowetz singled in Bramlett. Nicholas Novak followed with a  bunt single that scored Urquidi before the Ram scoring threat was ended.
The Buffs quickly responded, scoring three runs off ASU starting pitcher Trent Baker in the top of the fourth and re-claiming the lead.
Baker finally stopped WT but they got another run off him to start the fifth inning, chasing him from the game for reliever Shane Browning.
Browning then gave up a run in the sixth, making the Ram deficit three runs.
ASU's bats were quiet throughout that time only getting a runner in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Josh Barnett came in on the mound in the eighth and gave up one final run, putting Angelo State down 6-2 with just six outs left for their offense.
The Rams got one run in the eighth as Mathiowetz led off with a walked and Jacob Boston worked a two-out walk. Andrew Morales then came up and doubled down the left field line to score Mathiowetz, but Boston was caught in a rundown trying to score to end the rally.
Urquidi got on in the final inning and stole second, but ASU was unable to rally and lost the game, 6-3.
The Rams will now participate in the Lone Star Conference postseason tournament as the No. 4 seed in Canyon, Texas May 10-12.
