Belles Sweep Pioneers

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Belles came to play as they swept the Texas Woman's Pioneers, 3-0.
The Belles are now 21-2 overall, and 13-1 in conference.
 
In Case You Missed It:
  • The Belles had a slow start as the Pioneers would jump to a quick 4-1 lead early in set one.
  • Morgan Preston would quickly tie the game at 7-7 with one service ace and kills from Baleigh Allen and Kailyn Gilbreath.
  • Meghan Parker would take the serve and the lead for the Belles, serving for three straight points with a set error from TWU and a kill from Haley Coulter.
  • Kills from Sophia Berg and Makenzie Griffin extended ASU's lead to 15-10 over TWU.
  • Two kills from Gilbreath, assisted on both by Lindsey Ledyard, increased the lead to 19-16.
  • A service ace from Parker would finish set one for the Belles, 25-19.
 
  • ASU and TWU battled back and forth in set two for points, with neither team being able to gain an advantage over the other.
  • Texas Woman's gained a lead and maintained it until Preston came to the serving line, giving ASU its first lead of the set, 19-17.
  • Gilbreath's serving capabilities, two kills from Sundara Chinn, and multiple errors from TWU would end set two for the Belles, 25-18.
 
  • The Blue and Gold and Texas Woman's would both find their momentum in set three, both teams doing their best to gain the lead over the other.
  • Kills from Gilbreath and Coulter gave ASU its lead over TWU, 9-6.
  • Attack errors from the Pioneers and a kill from Coulter extended the lead to 12-7 for the Belles.
  • The Pioneers attempted a comeback, scoring three points on the Belles to cut the lead down to 15-12.
  • ASU and TWU traded points back and forth until a kill from Coulter and a service ace from Gilbreath brought the Blue and Gold to a 20-16 lead over the Pioneers.
  • Two service aces from Coulter ended set three, and the match, in favor for the Belles, 25-18.
 
Key Players:
  • Haley Coulter was the MVP for ASU, scoring 26 kills and two service aces offensively, as well as nine digs defensively. Her hitting percentage, a .423, almost doubled the Pioneers total hitting percentage at .218.
  • Meghan Parker and Lindsey Ledyard were ASU's most flexible players, registering 30 assists, two service aces, and 16 digs between the two.
  • Lindsey Ledyard was the defensive wall for the Belles, registering 10 digs, with Haley Coulter and Morgan Preston following closely behind with nine each, and Makenna Hanssen registering eight. Those four combined held the Pioneers to a total hitting percentage of .218.

The Belles play a two match series on the road as they travel to the state capitol to play St. Edwards on Friday, November 8, then hit the road once again to play St. Mary's in San Antonio on Saturday, November 9. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
