ARKADELPHIA, ARKANSAS – The Angelo State women's tennis team had an excellent weekend in Arkansas as they went 3-0.
The Belles started off by defeating Mississippi College 6-1, avenging a loss from last season. The duo of Zoe Gubbels and Virginie Becht won 6-1 at number two doubles and Maria Delgadillo and Lucie Maitrot won 6-3 to clinch the doubles point. From there , Valentina Gonzalez won 6-7, 6-3 (10-4) at number one singles, Maria Delgadillo won 6-4, 6-4 at number three, Virginie Becht won 6-0, 6-4 at number four, Zoe Gubbels won 7-6 (6), 6-3 at number five, and Yasmine Ansari won 6-0, 6-0 at number six.
Next, the Belles took on Ouachita Baptist. The team of Valentina Gonzalez and Ena Ovcina won 6-4, Maria Delgadillo and Lucie Maitrot won 6-2, and Melanie Dreux and Yasmine Ansari won 6-1 in doubles to clinch the doubles point. In singles, Maria Delgadillo won 6-2, 6-3 at number one, Zoe Gubbels won 6-1, 6-0 at number two, Yasmine Ansari won 6-0, 6-2 at number three, Lucie Maitrot won 6-0, 6-4 at number four, and Andrea Ramic won 6-0, 6-0 at number six for the 6-1 overall win.
On Saturday morning, the Belles took on Delta State. The team of Virginie Becht and Zoe Gubbels won 6-1 and Maria Delgadillo and Lucie Maitrot won 6-0 to clinch the doubles point. Valentina Gonzalez won at number one singles 6-0, 7-6 (2), Ena Ovcina won 6-2, 6-2 at number two, Maria Delgadillo won 6-1, 6-0 at number three, Virginie Becht won 6-4, 6-1 at number four, Zoe Gubbels won 6-0, 6-1 at number five, and Yasmine Ansari won 6-2, 6-3 at number six to win 7-0 overall.
The Belles will be in action again this coming Friday at home as they battle Central Oklahoma at home.
