Rams Continue Winning Ways in Kingsville

Kingsville, TX – After winning the first game of the series against the Javelinas, the Rams came out with the same energy for the Saturday doubleheader to sweep the day. With the pair of wins the Rams move to 18-4 on the year, and will finish the series against Texas A&M Kingsville tomorrow at 1 p.m.

The Rams were relentless in the first game of the day, scoring runs in all but the first and last innings of play. The assault started with Josh Elvir's eighth home run of the season, a single shot blasted down the right field line. Angelo State would rally with two outs in the top of the third to score their second and third runs of the game thanks to a pair of doubles from Nick Seginowich and Riley Peterson. The fourth inning would bring the fourth run in for the Ram's as Michael Urquidi grounded out to score Parker Bramlett from third. The Javelinas put themselves in a bad spot in the top of the fifth inning when the Ram's did a large portion of their damage. Four walks, a couple of hits, and a well-executed sac bunt from Riley Peterson later, ASU found themselves with a comfortable 7-2 lead. Both teams would scratch one more run across before the game would conclude, but Angelo State would be the team to collect the W.

Fabian Muniz was solid on the mound for the Rams in 6.2 innings of work. The Santa Maria junior started the season as a bullpen reliever, but after having appearances that started racking up the inning odometer, he has successfully transitioned into a starter for the Rams. Muniz collected his fourth win (4-0) of the season by giving up only three runs (one earned) on eight hits. Jacob Crabtree was called into the game to collect the final out and induced a groundout to pick up ASU's 17th win of the 2019 season. Crabtree has now thrown a full three innings without giving up a single hit this season.

ASU won the second game with an offensive display that kicked in much later than it had in the first game of the day, but the twelve runs on eleven hits they put up was more than enough to collect their second win of the day. Game two was also much more of a community win than the first game, with eight different members of the lineup collecting hits and five Ram pitchers spending time on the bump. Nicholas Novak, Jackson Hardy, and Zac Sanders combined for six hits, each having two. Novak drove in three runs in his 2-3 performance while Sanders drove in two of his own as well.

The series concludes tomorrow with the final game at 1 p.m. The Rams will go into the Sunday game already having secured the series win, but looking to cap off the weekend with a full sweep of the Javelinas.
