Rambelles Rebound From WT Loss Against ENMU

PORTALES, New Mexico – the Angelo State Belle basketball team traveled to Portales, New Mexico to face off against a fellow conference player, Eastern New Mexico, where the Belles defeated the Greyhounds, 70-60.
The Belles are now 9-5 overall and 6-4 in conference.
 
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
  • Sawyer Lloyd started the game off for the Belles with a made three pointer, assisted by Catara Samuel, 3-2.
  • A made jump shot from De'Anira Moore pulled the Belles ahead of the Greyhounds, 5-4.
  • The Belles kept the Greyhounds scoreless for over four minutes, while a made three pointer from Samuel and a jump shot from Angel Hayden extended the Belles lead to six, 10-4.
  • The Belles defensive skills and capabilities kept the Greyhounds from scoring for over five minutes, until ENMU made a jump shot on a turnover, but two made three pointers from Lana Marov and Megan Guadian brought the Belles to 12, 18-6.
  • A made free throw from Moore ends the first quarter for the Belles, 19-9.
Second Quarter
  • A made three pointer from Samuel, with the assist from Lloyd, brings the Belles lead back up to 10, 22-12.
  • Two made free throws from Moore maintains the Belles 10 point lead over ENMU, 24-14.
  • Several jump shots from Lloyd, Guadian, and Samantha Rocha extends ASU's lead to 14, 32-18.
  • A second chance layup, followed by a free throw from Moore, brings the Belles lead to 16, 35-19.
  • A personal foul sends Samuel to the free throw line, as Samuels drains two free throws and a made layup from Moore brings ASU to an 18 point lead to end the second quarter, 39-21.
Third Quarter
  • A layup from Moore, with the assist from Samuel, started the third quarter off for the Belles, 41-23.
  • The Greyhounds came out with a vengeance and kept the Belles from scoring for over two minutes until two made free throws from Moore brought the Belles back to an 18 point lead, 43-25.
  • A made layup from Samuel, and a made three pointer from Rocha brings the Belles lead to 18 once again, 48-30.
  • A made three pointer from Marov, with the assist from Lloyd, and a made layup from Samuel brought ASU to a 22 point lead over ENMU, 53-31.
  • A layup and free throw from Samuel extended the Belles lead to 23, 54-31.
Fourth Quarter
  • A made three pointer form Rocha with the assist form Hayden, brings ASU's lead to 18, 57-39.
  • Eastern New Mexico's defensive skills kept the Belles offense from scoring for almost four minutes, making a comeback and going on a 12 point run, 57-52.
  • A jump shot and free throw combo from Moore brings the Belles lead back up to eight, 60-52.
  • Several made free throws from Lloyd, Samuel, and Moore maintain the eight point lead over ENMU, 64-56.
  • Two made free throws from Lloyd extends the Belles lead to 10, 66-56.
  • Two free throws from Hayden and a layup from Samuel, with the assist form Lloyd, brings the Belles to a 10 point lead to end the game, 70-60.
 
Key Players:
  • De'Anira Moore was the Belles top scorer against the Greyhounds, scoring 21 points. Moore shot 6-14 from the field and 9-10 from the free throw line. Moore registered 15 rebounds, one on offensive and 14 on defense, recording a season high for Moore. Moore also recorded three blocks and one steal.
  • Catara Samuel continues to show why she is one of the Belles main offensive contenders, scoring 16 points against ENMU. Samuel shot 5-7 from the field, 2-2 from the three point line, and 4-7 from the free throw line. Samuel recorded seven defensive rebounds, four assists, and one steal.
  • Sawyer Lloyd has really shown her offensive potential in her freshman year, scoring nine points for the Belles. Lloyd shot 2-10 from the field and 2-7 from the three point line. Lloyd registered three rebounds, one on offense and two on defense, as well as six assists, three blocks, and one steal.
