Rambelles Softball Continues Play At Arkansas Tech Invite

CONROE, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelle softball team split another double header as they played both Augustana and the University of Central Oklahoma. ASU lost to Augustana in their first game 8-4, while defeating the University of Central Oklahoma in game two, 6-4.
 
Against Augustana:
  • A line drive to Mikayla Stroud with a diving tag for a double play ended the second inning for Angelo State. Augies lead the Rambelles, 3-0.
  • Down 7-0 at the top of the sixth inning, Maleya Burns steps up to the plate and crushes the ball over the left field fence for a three-run homerun.
  • Karina Rocha would follow up with a solo homerun to shorten Augustanas lead to 7-4.
  • Even though the Rambelles put up a valiant comeback attempt, Augustanas defense and hitting capabilities proved too much for Angelo State as the Rambelles fell, 8-4.
Key Players:  
Against University of Central Oklahoma:
  • Ashlyn Lermas quick feet and speed were put to the test as she stole second base and then scored off of Courtney Barnhills RBI single to tie the game at the bottom of the third inning, 1-1.
  • Meagan Hill entered the game at the top of the fifth inning to relieve Paxton Scheurer, and ended the fifth with a strikeout as Angelo State trailed behind the Bronchos, 4-1.
  • Lerma laid down a bunt single and advanced to second base off of a throwing error. Madison Fernandez stepped up to the plate and smacked a ball out into deep right center field, making it to first base and scoring Lerma from second.
  • Fernandez was able to steal second, and the Bronchos walked Karina Rocha. Paxton Scheurer stepped up to the plate and cranked another ball deep into left field, scoring both Fernandez and Rocha and tying the game at 4-4.
  • At the top of the sixth, Makayla Corbin entered the pitch and three a perfect three up, three down inning.
  • The Rambelles took the lead on a huge two-run double by Maleya Burns, scoring both Lerma and Barnhill.
  • Corbins pitching skills gave the Rambelles the win after leaving two base runners on first and third base at the top of the seventh, with Angelo State taking the game over the University of Central Oklahoma, 6-4.

The Rambelles wrap up the Arkansas Tech Invite as they face off against the Pittsburg State Gorillas on Sunday, February 2. The Rambelles will take the field at 10 a.m.
