Rambelles Set to Compete in Oklahoma

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 12 Angelo State University women's tennis team continues regular season play in Oklahoma as it is set to play Oklahoma Baptist University and No. 9 University of Central Oklahoma on Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, February 16, respectively.

The Belles competed in an exhibition match against Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. The Blue and Gold defeated the Pirates 6-3. In doubles, Valentina Gonzalez and partner Ena Ovcina grabbed ASU's first point and tied the match after defeating their opponents, Esther Bowers and Nina Mitvafanova, 8-3. Virginie Becht and Anna Schneemann grabbed the second point in doubles to give ASU the 2-1 lead after defeating their opponents, 8-1.
 
In singles, Maria Delgadillo grabbed the first singles point defeating her opponent Emma Kesterson in two straight sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Zoe Gubbels followed closely behind Delgadillo claiming the second point after retiring her opponent in two straight sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Dianela Rodriguez battled in her first set against Mitafanova, taking set one by a score of 7-5, but she followed up with an easy set two, defeating Mitafanova by a score of 6-2 to give another point to ASU. Gonzalez closed out the match for ASU, defeating her opponent Mary Cardone by a score of 6-3 in set one and then battled in set two, edging out a 7-5 victory to give the Belles a 6-3 match win.
 
Up Next:
Following the matches this weekend, Angelo State will head to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to take on Mississippi State Friday, February 21 followed by Delta State University and Henderson State University on Saturday, Februrary 22. First serve on Friday is set for 2 p.m. and first serve on Saturday is slated for 10 a.m. for match one.
