SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Rambelle softball continued to dominate in the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge as the Rambelles defeated both the Ouachita Baptist Tigers and the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls.
The Rambelles move to an 11-3 overall record.
Against Ouachita Baptist:
Top of the 1
st Inning:
Genesis Armendariz would quickly take care of the first three Tigers to come into the batters' box, striking out the first batters as they looked on, and striking out the third as she valiantly took a swing.
Bottom of the 1
st Inning:
- Courtney Barnhill would start things off well for Angelo State, smacking a double out into deep right center field and advancing to third on a wild pitch shortly afterwards.
- Paxton Scheurer would demolish a ball outta the park as she would hit a home run to bring her and Barnhill home and take an early 2-0 lead over Ouachita Baptist.
- Karina Rocha would be hit by a pitch, sending her to first with Madison Fernanadez to step up to the plate. Fernandez would crank one over fence, bringing her and Rocha home, bringing the Rambelles to a 4-0 lead over the Tigers.

nd Inning:
Armendariz once again would allow her defense to show off their defensive skills as the first batter would ground out to third base, and an amazing double play from
Jade Strother to
Mykayla Stroud and onto
Madison Fernandez would end the top of the 2
nd inning.
Top of the 4
th Inning:
The Rambelles defense once again came to play, throwing the first Tiger batter out at first, and then grabbing another double play as Strother would tag one batter out at second and throw to first to Fernandez for the third out of the inning.
Bottom of the 4
th:
- Strother would walk to first, with Hatty Shope pinch hit for Stroud. Shope would hit a double into right center field, scoring Strother and bringing the Rambelles lead to 5-2.
- Logan Graham would ground out to the shortstop and advanced Shope to third base and put the Rambelles once again in scoring position.
Bottom of the 5
th:
- Fernandez would walk to first, with Ashlyn Lerma pinch running for Fernandez. Lerma would steal second shortly afterwards,
- Keilei Garcia would hit a single, scoring Lerma from second base to bring the Rambelles to a 6-2 lead over the Tigers.

Against New Mexico Highlands:

st Inning:
Meagan Hill would have another phenomenal day as she would start the game against New Mexico Highlands with three up, three down.
Bottom of the 1
st Inning:
- Courtney Barnhill hit a single into right field, with Paxton Scheurer up to bat behind her. Scheurer would also hit a single and advance to second on an error by the pitcher, advancing Barnhill to third base on the same error.
- Madison Fernandez would hit a sacrifice fly into right field, scoring Barnhill from third base. Hatty Shope would walk to first base and shortly advance to second base on a wild pitch, with Scheurer scoring on the same passed ball. ASU would gain an early 2-0 lead over the Cowgirls.
Top of the 2
nd Inning:
Hill and the Rambelle defense would once again go three up, three down against the Cowgirls. Two Cowgirls would hit two pop flys, and the third would strike out looking.
Bottom of the 2
nd Inning:
- Avery Zeigler and Jade Strother would both hit singles into the outfield, with Megan Gordon reaching first base on an error from the New Mexico Highlands pitcher with Zeigler on third and Strother on second.
- Barnhill would step up to the plate for ASU and absolutely crack a ball out of the park, scoring Zeigler, Strother, and Gordon for the first grand slam of the 2020 season. ASUs' lead would grow to 6-0.
- Scheurer would hit another home run for the Rambelles, bringing the Rambelles lead to 7-0 against the Cowgirls.
- Karina Rocha would walk to first with Fernandez singling out into right field and advancing Rocha to second.
- Shope would single into right field, advancing Fernandez to third base and scoring Rocha to bring Angelo States' lead to 8-0.
- Ashlyn Lerma would pinch hit for Jade Strother, reaching second base on an error from the second baseman and scoring Fernandez to bring the Rambelles lead to 9-0.
Bottom of the 4
th:
- Shope would hit a double and advance to third on a wild pitch.
- Lerma would hit a single into center field and score Shope from third base, bringing the Rambelles lead to 10-0.
