Moore and Samuel Lead Rambelles to Victory in Silver City

SILVER CITY, New Mexico – The Angelo State Belle basketball team defeated the Western New Mexico Mustangs in Silver City, New Mexico, 74-54.
The Belles move to a 16-9 overall record and a 13-8 conference record.
 
In Case You Missed It:
First Quarter
  • A three pointer from Sawyer Lloyd, a jumper from Catara Samuel, and a made layup from De'Anira Moore brought the Belles to an early 7-0 lead over Western New Mexico.
  • A second chance layup from Lana Marov extended the Belles lead over WNMU to nine points, 9-0.
  • The Mustangs made a layup under the basket to cut the lead down to seven, but a three pointer from Kinley Brown brought the Belles lead back up to ten points, 12-2.
  • The Mustangs would hit several jump shots, cutting the Belles lead down once again to five points but a jump shot from Lloyd and a layup from Samuel extended the Belles lead back up to nine points, 16-7.
  • A second chance layup and free throw from Moore would end the first quarter, 19-12.
 
Second Quarter
  • Several layups from Moore and a free throw from Marov extended the Belles lead back to 12, 24-12.
  • The Mustangs would make a layup and cut the Belles lead down to 10, but Moore would score another layup to bring ASU back to a 12 point lead, 26-14.
  • Samantha Rocha and Lloyd would both make layups underneath the basket, extending the Belles lead to 14 points, 30-16.
  • The Mustangs would cut the Belles lead down to 11, but a three pointer from Perrine Manoury, assisted by Asia Davis, would bring the Belles back to a 13 point led over WMNU, 33-20.
 
Third Quarter
  • A layup from Moore began the third quarter for the Belles, extending ASUs' lead back to 13, 35-22.
  • Western New Mexico cut Angelo States lead down to eight points, but a three pointer from Samuel extended the Belles lead back into double digits at 11, 38-27.
  • A driving layup from Samuel kept the Belles lead at 11 points, 40-29.
  • Western New Mexico would cut the Belles lead down to six points with a three pointer and a jump shot, but a layup and free throw from Moore extended the Belles lead back to nine, 43-34.
  • A jumper from Lloyd and a layup from Samuel maintained the Belles eight point lead over the Mustangs, 47-39.
  • A layup and second chance free throw from Brown brought the Belles back to a 11 point lead, 50-39
  • A three pointer from Manoury extended the Belles lead to 12 points, ending the third quarter for Angelo State, 53-41.
 
Fourth Quarter
  • A layup from Davis and a three pointer from Lloyd brought the Belles back to a 15 point lead, 58-43.
  • WNMU would cut the Belles lead down to 12, but a second chance layup from Moore brought ASUs' lead back to a 14 point lead, 60-46.
  • A jumper from Marov maintained the Belles 14 point lead, but a three pointer from Manoury extended the Angelo States lead even further to 17, 65-48.
  • A layup from Manoury, a layup from Samuel, and a three pointer from Marov extended the Belles lead even further to 22, 72-50.
  • Western New Mexico would cut the Belles lead down to 18 but a layup from Brown would extend the Belles lead back up to 20 points, ending the game for Angelo State as the Belles would defeat Western New Mexico, 74-54.
 
Key Players:
  • De'Anira Moore continues to be one of the main scorers that Angelo State can depend on, scoring 18 points for the Belles. Moore shot 8-16 from the field and 2-3 from the free throw line, along with grabbing seven total rebounds, three on offense and four on defense, as well as one steal.
  • Catara Samuel maintains her status as one of Angelo States most versatile players, scoring 13 points for the Belles. Samuel shot 6-10 from the field and 1-3 from the three point line. Samuel grabbed six defensive rebounds, along with four assists, one block, and two steals.
  • Sawyer Lloyd showed her offensive prowess on the court as she scored 12 points for ASU. Lloyd shot 5-8 from the field and 2-4 from the three point line. Lloyd grabbed seven defensive rebounds, playing for 30 minutes against the Mustangs.

The Belles finish out the regular season as they travel to Odessa, Texas to face off against the University of Texas – Permian Basin Falcons on Saturday, February 29. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
