Lubbock, Texas – The Belles got off to slow start in their game Saturday against reigning GAC champions Southern Nazarene, only scoring five points in the opening quarter.
The Belles improved as the game went along, outscoring the Crimson Storm in the final frame 18-8 to mount an attempted comeback, ultimately coming up short 52-43.
The Belles' defense held the Crimson Storm to only shoot 31.4 percent from the field for the game and forced SNU into 27 turnovers.
Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant and
Samantha Rocha led the Belles with eight points each. McGhee-Pleasant recorded a team-high seven rebounds and Rocha went a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line, accounting for two-thirds of the Belles' makes at the charity stripe and half of all their attempts.
Madeline Stephens and
Madisen Honea scored six points each, with Stephens nabbing a team-high three steals.
Tynli Harris recorded four points and six rebounds off the bench and
Payton Brown recorded a team-high five assists.
The Belles will be back in action next weekend when they host the ASU Thanksgiving Classic.
