SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State Belles volleyball team swept the Midwestern State Mustangs in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference tournament in three sets, 3-0. The Belles move on to the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference tournament and a 14-2 overall record.
The Mustangs quickly jumped to a 1-0 lead over ASU, but the Belles retaliated in force as
Grace White and
Delaney Fuller registered three kills to take a 3-1 lead over Midwestern State. A kill from
Lindsey Ledyard sent
Chloe Patton to serve for ASU, where she served for two serves as
Kailyn Gilbreath and
Baleigh Allen each registered a kill to bring the Belles to a five point lead over MSU, 8-3.
Two kills from Fuller and Gilbreath, along with two errors from the Mustangs, extended the Belles lead even further to nine points, 14-5. The Mustangs managed to cut the Belles lead to six with several attack errors from ASU, but a kill from White sent Ledyard back to serve for ASU. Ledyard served for four straight points, registering a service ace, where Gilbreath registered another two kills to bring ASU to an 11 point lead over the Mustangs, 20-9.
Attack errors from the Mustangs gave Angelo State the first set as MSU registered three straight errors to end set one in favor of Angelo State, 25-11.
Two kills from Gilbreath and White, along with an error from the Mustangs, started the second off well for the Belles as ASU took a 3-1 lead over the Mustangs. A service error from the Mustangs sent Patton back to serve again where she served for two points as
Elsa Lamphere registered a kill to bring ASU to a 6-3 lead over the Mustangs.
MSU managed to cut their deficit to one point off of several kills and errors from ASU, but an error from the Mustangs brought Gilbreath back to serve for the Belles, where she served for six unanswered points and registering a service ace.
Sophia Berg registered a kill for the Belles, and multiple errors from the Mustangs brought ASU to a seven point lead over Midwestern State, 20-13.
Kills from Berg, White, and Gilbreath brought the second set to an end in favor of Angelo State as the Belles defeated Midwestern State in a close set two, 25-20.
Midwestern State came back with a vengeance in set three as the Mustangs quickly gained a 2-0 lead over ASU off of a kill and a service ace. ASU tied the set up at 2-2, and the two teams proceeded to battle for points back and forth until a kill from Gilbreath tied the set up at 6-6 and sending Gilbreath to the service line.
Gilbreath served for six unanswered points against the Mustangs as MSU registered multiple errors and Lamphere grabbed a kill for ASU to pull ahead to a 12-6 lead over Midwestern State. A kill from Gilbreath extended the Belles lead back to six over MSU at 14-8, sending Allen back to the service line for the Belles where she grabbed an ace to bring ASU to a 15-8 lead over the Mustangs.
MSU managed to cut their deficit down to three points off of a kill and several errors from the Belles, but two kills from Gilbreath, a kill from White, and a service ace from Fuller brought ASU back to a five point lead over the Mustangs, 19-14. Several kills from White, Gilbreath and Lamphere extended the Belles lead to seven over the Mustangs, 23-16.
A kill from Berg brought the third set, and the match, to an end as Angelo State defeated the Mustangs, 25-19, and securing their spot in the semifinals of the LSC tournament.

- Gilbreath led the Belles offense against the Midwestern State Mustangs with 17 kills, scoring 18 points, and registering a .571 hitting percentage. She registered eight assists, one service ace, and five digs for the Belles.
- Ledyard showed her versatility against MSU as she registered 22 assists for the Belles, as well as a service ace, scoring one point. She also registered seven digs on defense.
- Patton led the Belles defensively against Midwestern State, registering 12 digs and four assists for Angelo State.

The Belles will travel to Tyler, Texas for their semifinal match of the LSC tournament against the Texas A&M- Kingsville Javelinas on Tuesday, March 30 at 5 p.m. The winner will play the winner of Arkansas-Fort Smith and UT Tyler in the final match on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
