SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team will look to keep its winning streak alive as the Rams travel to Lubbock Christian for a three-game series beginning Friday at Hays Field and City Bank Clubhouse.
LAST WEEK:
The Rams returned to Lone Star Conference play against St. Mary's last weekend, winning all-three games to improve to 5-1 in league play. ASU picked up two easy wins to begin the series, winning 13-8 and 8-0 before closing out the series with a walk-off to finish the sweep 11-10.
#1 ANGELO STATE (9-1, 5-1 LSC) vs. LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (3-6, 2-4 LSC)
ALL-TIME SERIES: Angelo State leads 20-12; Last Meeting: ASU, 12-5
Having first played each other during the 2010 season, the Rams hold the advantage in the all-time series 20-12. Last year, Angelo State swept a four-game series against the Chaps, outscoring LCU 51-23. ASU has won 13 of the last 17 meetings with the Chaps taking a three-game series 2-1 during the 2019 season.
SCOUTING LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN:
At the plate, the Chaps have struggled to start the season, holding a batting average of .243 through nine games which ranks ninth in the Lone Star Conference. One offense category they do led the conference in is home runs, hitting 11 so far this year. Colin Gordon leads LCU with a .324 batting average, collecting 11 hits and six RBIs.
Lubbock Christian ranks in the middle of the pack while on the mound, holding a team ERA of 5.93 which ranks sixth in the LSC. Ty Stephenson has been on of their best performers, holding an ERA of 2.70 while giving up nine hits and three earned runs in 10 innings.
EIGHT IN A ROW:
After dropping a 2-1 result in game two of the season, the Rams have rattled off eight wins in a row.
NOTABLE STREAKS:
Jordan Williams leads the conference in total hits with 19 and has recorded a hit in all 10 games this season. On the other side,
Benjamin Elders leads the LSC in ERA at 0.40, and hasn't giving up a run in the last 22 straight innings on the mound.
