Rams Baseball Extends Winnings Streak with 9-5 Win Over LCU

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 1-ranked Angelo State baseball team extended its winning streak on Friday, defeating Lubbock Christian 9-5 at Hays Field.

The Rams improve to 10-1 overall, and 6-1 in Lone Star Conference play as they pick up their ninth consecutive victory.

Angelo State jumped out ahead against the Chaps, scoring six runs in the first inning of play. After scoring the first run on an error by third base, Jordan Williams singled towards the right side, scoring Nick Seginowich and extending his hitting streak to 11 games in the process.

Also singling to right field was Nick Novak who scored Williams on the play while the Rams added on three more runs due to mistakes by LCU.

Lubbock Christian cut into the lead in the bottom of the innings, tallying three runs after a triple brought in the first run, followed by a groundout to second base and a single to center field.

After a scoreless second inning by both teams, the Rams extended their lead with three more runs in the third. Novak singled up the middle for his second RBI of the game while Koby Kelton hit a two-RBI triple as ASU took a 9-3 lead.

Novak and Williams each recorded two hits in the game while Josh Elvir finished with one hit and two walks.

On the mound, Trent Baker earned his fourth win of the season to improve to 4-0 for the Rams, tossing seven innings of work while giving up six hits, one earned run and striking out eight total batters.

The Chaps tried a late rally, adding two more runs in the eighth inning off a two-RBI single, but LCU couldn't overcome the deficit.

Both teams will continue the three-game series tomorrow with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
