Rambelles Sweep No. 17 Javelinas For Perfect 5-0 Weekend

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Courtney Barhill continues to leave her mark as an Angelo State Rambelle softball player as she smacked a two run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas in game two, 3-1. Angelo State went 5-0 for a perfect weekend at home, moving to a 26-10 overall record and a 17-7 conference record.

Game One:
Ashlynn Box kicked things off in the bottom of the first as she smacked a single up the middle of the field, advancing to second on a single from Barnhill. Madison Fernandez loaded the bases as she hit a single to left field, advancing to second as Keilei Garcia was walked. Box scored the first run of the game on Garcias walk, bringing ASU to a 1-0 lead over TAMUK.

Jade Strother smacked a single into deep center field to register three RBI as Barnhill, Fernandez, and Garcia all scored runs to bring the Rambelles to a 4-0 lead over the Javelinas.

In the top of the second, Makayla Corbin struck two batters out swinging while the catcher managed to catch a runner on first napping as she picked the runner off to bring an end to the Javelinas offensive attempt.

Ashlyn Lerma was walked in the bottom of the second, advancing to third on a single from Box. Box stole second, and Lerma stole home while the Javelinas were caught off guard to bring ASU to a 5-0 lead over Kingsville.

The Javelinas scored one run in the top of the third to cut their deficit to four, 5-1, but the Rambelles defense stepped up and quickly stopped Kingsville from scoring any more runs as the final out of the inning came from a line drive to the shortstop.

In the bottom of the third, with two outs and no one on base, Hatty Shope dug her feet in the batters box and cranked a solo home run over the right center field fence to extend the Rambelles lead to 6-1 over the Javelinas.

Haylie Mitchell showed her speed in the bottom of the fourth as she beat the throw from the shortstop for a single, where she stole second shortly after. Box smacked a single down the right field line, scoring Mitchell to bring ASU to a 7-1 lead over the Javelinas.

TAMUK scored their second run in the top of the sixth inning off of a home run over the center field fence, but ASU once again buckled down and kept the Javelinas from scoring again as two batter popped up to the pitcher and third baseman, while a foul ball caught by the left fielder brought about the final out of the inning.

Mitchell showed her speed once again as she made it to first off of a bunt, stealing second shortly afterwards. Box was walked and advanced to third off of a single hit by Barnhill into deep left field as Mitchell scored another run for the Rambelles, bringing the Blue and Golds lead to 8-2 over the Javelinas.

With bases loaded after Fernandez walked, the Javelinas hit both Garcia and Strother for walks, scoring Box and Barnhill to give Angelo State the win over Texas A&M-Kingsville in game one, 10-2.
