No. 12 Rambelles Fall to No. 12 West Texas A&M 10-0 in LSC Championship Game

OKLAHOMA CITY, Ok. – The No. 20 Angelo State Rambelles softball team fought hard in the final game of the Lone Star Conference tournament, but fell short against the No. 12 West Texas A&M Buffs as the Rambelles were defeated 0-10 to take second place in the LSC tournament. Angelo State finishes the tournament with a 33-12 overall record.

Angelo State had three players that were selected to the Lone Star Conference All-Tournament Team for their performances in the tournament in Madison Fernandez, Ashlyn Lerma, and Makayla Corbin.

Corbin finishes the weekend with a 2-1 record after pitching for 10.2 innings, throwing 11 strikeouts and facing 56 batters.

Fernandez finished the weekend with a .500 batting average, scoring two runs and registering three hits, one double, and one home run while driving in three RBI for the Rambelles.

Lerma finished the weekend with a .500 batting average as well, scoring two runs and registering three hits off of six total at-bats, and driving in one RBI for Angelo State. Lerma had two stolen bases recorded against the St. Edwards Hilltoppers as well.

West Texas A&M quickly took a five run lead over the Rambelles in the top of the first inning, scoring one run off an Angelo State throwing error, then hitting a grand slam to take a 5-0 lead over Angelo State with one out. The Blue and Gold managed to get the next two outs quickly as Corbin struck one batter out swinging, while the final out came from a line drive straight to the first baseman to bring ASU to bat.

Corbin went three up and three out in the top of the second as two batters grounded out to the shortstop, while the third out came from a pop fly to the second baseman.

The Buffs scored another run in the top of the third to extend their lead to 6-0 over the Rambelles, but the Blue and Gold quickly squashed their offensive movement as two batters flied out to the center fielder, while the third out came from a line drive to the second baseman.

With two runners on first and second, the Rambelles defense managed to secure one out on a sacrifice bunt, advancing the runners to second and third. The Buffs hit a single past the second baseman to score two runs in the top of the fourth, bringing the Buffs lead to 8-0 over Angelo State. West Texas A&M smacked a double out to left field, scoring one run to bring the Buffs lead to 9-0.

Victoria Vasquez came in to pitch relief for Corbin, as the Rambelles secured the second out of the inning as the runner on second tried to steal third and was thrown out by the catcher. Two back-to-back singles for the Buffs scored one more run for WT to take a 10-0 lead over Angelo State before a grounder hit to the shortstop ended the fourth inning for WT.

The Blue and Gold attempted to get their offense going in the bottom of the fifth, but the Buffs defense proved too much for Angelo State as Ashton Dirner and Maleya Burns both hit line drives straight to the second and third basemen for outs, while Barnhill fouled out to the first baseman, bringing an end to the game for ASU as West Texas A&M defeated the Rambelles, 10-0, in the final game of the Lone Star Conference tournament.
