The ninth-ranked Angelo State baseball team continues the second round of the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament, as the second-seeded Rams take on sixth-seeded Lubbock Christian at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium on Thursday.

The Rams earned the opportunity to host after top-seeded West Texas A&M lost to St. Edward's in the opening round of the championship last weekend.

Eighth-seeded St. Edward's will take on fifth-seed St. Mary's in the early game on Thursday at 2 p.m., followed by the Rams and Chaps at 6:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Rams advanced in the tournament after winning the best two of three series against Arkansas Fort Smith in the opening round. ASU won the first game handily, defeating the Lions 20-3 before advancing with a 10-1 victory in game three.
Aaron Walters earned NCBWA South-Central Region Hitter of the Week for his performance, tallying nine RBIs on the weekend including five in game three.

The Rams have tallied three tournament titles since the conference began the current format and have made eight finals appearances. ASU won the tournament championship in 2007, 2012, and 2015.

The Rams hold the advantage in the all-time series, winning 22 of the 36 meetings between the Chaps. Earlier in the season, the Rams won the series against Lubbock Christian, winning the first two games before the Chaps avoided the sweep with a 12-6 victory in game three at home. Later on, LCU picked up a non-conference win over the Rams in San Angelo.

SCOUTING LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN:
After dropping the first game against third-seed Texas A&M – Kingsville, the Chaps tallied back-to-back wins, winning 13-8 and 9-5 to upset the Javelinas and advance in the LSC Tournament.

The Chaps enter the weekend with a 21-22 overall record and will look for their third straight win over the Rams, winning 5-3 most recently in San Angelo, giving the Rams their only regular-season loss at home on the year.

Lubbock Christian ranks fifth in the conference in batting average, hitting .301 as a team while collecting the second-most hits with 449, and holds the third-highest slugging percentage at .511. Luis Navarro leads the Chaps at the plate, hitting .392 which ranks fourth LSC. On the mound, LCU has the fifth-lowest team ERA at 5.96 and is led by Owen Woodward who has a 4.50 ERA in 48 innings of work.
