#24 Rambelles Travel to Canyon for Top 25 Matchup with #10 West Texas A&M

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Coming off a week of ups and downs, the #24 ranked Angelo State women's soccer team faces their second consecutive top 25 matchup, traveling to Canyon to face West Texas A&M in their sole contest of the week.

NEED TO KNOW
  • ASU had their stretch of ten games unbeaten broken against UTPB following the Rambelles first loss of the season.
  • Sophomore Grace Jordan ranks fifth in the Lone Star Conference with six goals on the season, her five game-winning goals are the best mark in the LSC.  
  • After adding another assist last week, Valerie Solis leads the team with four assists, she holds the second-best mark in the conference.
  • Freshman Hadley Coronado scored the game-winning goal against DBU in the 2-0 victory, her second goal of the season.
  • Kira Miller earned her eighth clean sheet of the season against DBU. The Frisco native now has 36 career clean sheets and is chasing the LSC career record of 40 which is currently held by Jamie Griffis who played at West Texas A&M 2000-04.
  • Miller, the reigning Lone Star Conference goalkeeper of the year, has 34 saves twelve games into the season, she needs 21 saves to break the all-time saves record at Angelo State after making nine during the match week six. She already holds the Belles all-time shutouts (36) and wins (53) titles.
  • Miller and backline staple Cassidy Hill were announced as LSC preseason Goalkeeper and Defender of the year, both for the second consecutive season.
  • Hill and Miller have each played all 1,080 minutes of the 2022 season.
  • Jordan and Miller earned LSC honors after wins against Eastern New Mexico and St. Mary's in match week five.
  • Hill was recognized as the LSC Defensive Player of the Week in match week four after shutting out both Texas A&M International and Oklahoma Christian.
  • Miller also earned LSC Goalkeeper of the Week honors after a shutout and six saves in match week two against Colorado School of Mines and Regis.
  • Seniors Mia Czarnecki and Hill were announced as captains for the 2022 campaign.
  • ASU returns 19 of 28 letterwinners from the 2021 season which saw them advance to the second round of the NCAA DII National Tournament.
  • The Belles have outscored their opponents 21-6 through twelve games, averaging 1.75 goals per contest, only allowing opponents 0.50, the best mark in conference.
  • Head Coach Travis McCorkle enters his 15th season at the helm of the Belles program, looking to add more hardware following the team's second consecutive LSC Tournament Championship.
  • Assistant Coach Harold Muñoz enters his sixth season with the Belles, and Avery McNeme enters the coaching ranks as the Belles graduate assistant following five years on the pitch.
 
ANGELO STATE at. WEST TEXAS A&M
  • The Lady Buffs hold the all-time advantage over the Rambelles, 19-15-7, and are 3-1-1 in the last five matches.
  • The last time the teams played was in San Angelo in 2021 where the Belles beat the Lady Buffs 2-1 behind goals from Solis and Breanne Bittick.
  • WT is currently 8-1-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in Lone Star Conference action.
  • The Lady Buffs are 1-1-1 in their last three matches after losing 2-0 to DBU, drawing with Lubbock Christian 0-0, and most recently beating UT Tyler 3-2 at home.
  • WT has the second most goals scored and has the best scoring average in the Lone Star, netting 2.600 goals per game.
  • Maria-Frances Serrant leads the line for the Lady Buffs with 12 goals and two assists on the year. Asha James is also an offensive catalyst, with nine goals and three assists herself. The pair rank first and second in the LSC in both goals and points.
  • Reagan Heelan, the Lady Buffs keeper, holds the number one save percentage in the LSC at .907 and is second in goals against average at .505 (only Miller has a better average, .500).
  • The Lady Buffs received one first-place vote and were pinned to finish third in the LSC preseason poll. WT currently sits fifth in the LSC with their 2-1-1 conference record.
