#18 Rambelles Claim Pair of Victories at McCorkle Challenge

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team, for the second time in as many days, beat Bethany College and East Central in back-to-back games at the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge to add two more wins to the win column.

The Rambelle offense struck quickly in game one against the Swedes. Bailey Martinez started the scoring off with a two-RBI double to left field; Martinez would score later in the inning on a wild pitch.

An Ashleigh Boswell single scored Mykayla Stroud; Bowell crossed home plater herself later in the inning on a double steal.

Leadoff hitter Lindsey Evans, hitting for the second time in the inning, cleared the bases with a three-run home run, her second of the season, to make it 8-0. Ashlynn Box would get hit by a pitch to reach base for the second time in the inning to precede Paxton Scheurer's seventh home run of the season, an opposite-field shot to tally 10 runs for the Rambelles in the first inning.

Ashton Dirner's RBI single would start the scoring in the second inning; Maleya Burns would follow her with a three-run home run, the first hit for the outfielder this season, to extend the lead to 14-0.

Evans singled and would score via Katie Burris' first collegiate hit, a home run to left field, to make the score 16-0 after two innings.

The Rambelles, who went scoreless in the third inning, scored in the fourth inning through a Sierra Schottler sacrifice fly, and two-RBI double by Victoria Mosqueda and a Swede error to settle the score at 20-0.

Torrey Hogan improved to 5-0 on the season, only allowing two hits and three walks while striking out six batters in four innings of work. Ashton McMillan pitched the final inning in relief, recording her first collegiate strikeout in a perfect inning for the San Angelo native.

Game two saw the Tigers capitalize on a pair of Rambelle errors, with all three of the Tigers' runs being unearned against Rambelles pitcher Genesis Armendariz.

Facing a 3-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the third inning, Ashlyn Lerma led the inning off with a four-pitch walk before scoring on a two-run home run by Evans to center field, her third home run of the season to cut the Tigers' lead to 3-2.

Evans would homer in the fifth inning to tie the game before Scheurer would also leave the yard two batters later to give the Rambelles the decisive 4-3 lead, where the score would ultimately stay.

Armendariz pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and one walk while striking out five; the New Mexican improves to 3-1 on the season.

The Rambelles are 9-1 on the season and will close out the George and Ola McCorkle Challenge tomorrow to face St. Edward's in a non-conference matchup.
