Rambelles Ride Hot Second Half to Take Down Lady Lions

Brown Reaches 1,000 Career Points in Win

Fort Smith, Ark. – The Angelo State women's basketball team opened their final road trip on the right foot on Thursday, using a strong shooting in the second half to pull away from UAFS for a 67-55 win in the Natural State.

Only shooting 39.3 percent from the field in the first half and with the teams tied at 29-all at the half, the Rambelles shot 58.3 percent after the halftime break to take the lead and secure their fourth-straight win and second-straight win on the road.

Eight points each from Madeline Stephens and Blakely Gerber helped the Rambelles pull out a six-point lead at the end of the third quarter.

The third quarter also saw Rambelles point guard Payton Brown score a layup with 3:52 left in the quarter for her 1,000th career point, all of which has come under head coach Alesha Ellis between both Angelo State and Wayland Baptist.

Stephens, the current LSC Defensive Player of the Week, led all players with a season-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. She also grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots on the defensive side of the ball.

Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant, Gerber and Sawyer Lloyd each scored 12 points on the night. McGhee-Pleasant came just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds, while her and Lloyd both grabbed four steals as they forced the Lady Lions into 21 turnovers.

The Rambelles are now 13-11 on the season and 10-3 in conference play; the win also means that the Rambelles have clinched a top-eight seed in the LSC Tournament, which guarantees a first-round home game. The Rambelles close their road schedule on Saturday against Oklahoma Christian.
