SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 12
th-ranked Angelo State baseball team needed an extra inning to pull off the win on Friday, defeating Oklahoma Christian in game one of the series 7-6 after an error in the 10
th inning at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium.
The Rams improve to 7-2 overall on the year and 7-2 in Lone Star Conference play after winning their sixth straight game.
Oklahoma Christian struck first, scoring two runs in the second inning on a bunt single and a sacrifice fly for an early lead.
ASU tallied its first run in the third inning as
Jordan Williams hit a ground out to the shortstop to score
Jackson Hardy while the Rams poured on the runs in the fourth, adding four to take the lead.
Austin Beck started things off with a two-RBI single down the right-field line while
Thomas Cain singled in a run and Hardy hit into a fielder's choice to add the final run and give ASU a 5-2 lead.
Benjamin Elder started on the mound for the Rams, tossing six innings with two earned runs and seven hits while striking out six batters. Picking up the win in relief was
Carson Childers who allowed only one hit through 3 2/3 innings of work while collecting five punch outs.
The Eagles got one run back in the sixth with an RBI single before regaining the lead in the seventh with three runs, including two off a double to the left-field wall.
Down 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh,
Tayten Tredaway came in to pinch hit before singling through the right side to score Trip Clark, who got on base with a triple, to tie the game.
In extras,
Aaron Walters walked to get on first before
Justin Lee singled through the right side to move Walters to third. Clark hit a shot toward the shortstop who couldn't get a clean throw to first as Walters comes around to score.
Lee finished with three hits in the game while four other Rams tallied two hits while Beck led with two RBIs.
The Rams and Eagles continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
