#9 Rambelles Close ASU Tournament with Win over Dustdevils

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team closed the Angelo State Invitational presented by Bahlman Cleaners with a win over Texas A&M International. The win improves the Rambelles to 15-1 on the season and extends their winning streak to 14 games; they also improve to 10-0 inside Mayer Stadium this season.

The Rambelles notched the first run of the game in the first inning with a double steal of Ashlynn Box and Ashlyn Lerma, with Lerma crossing the plate for her 14th stolen base of the season.

A double and a pair of singles saw the Dustdevils level the score in the top of the second inning.

The Rambelles would respond with five runs in the bottom part of the inning – Keilei Garcia would score on a Lerma infield single before Paxton Scheurer would drive in three runs with a bases-loaded double to left centerfield. The Rambelles' third baseman has driven in 32 runs this season.

Scheurer would complete the scoring in the inning, coming home on a Box single to make it 6-1.

The Dustdevils would pull back a pair of runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to bring the score to 6-4.

Batting in the bottom of the fifth with the bases loaded and facing a new pitcher, Bailey Martinez cleared the bases with her seventh double of the season to settle the score at 9-4, where it would stay for the remainder of the contest.

Torrey Hogan got the start in the circle, throwing three innings and only allowing one run. Sierra Schottler would throw an inning in relief; Genesis Armendariz would come into the game with two runners on and no outs in the fifth inning and record three strikeouts to not allow a run and keep the game at 6-4.

Armendariz, who picked up her fourth win of the weekend, only allowed three hits and two walks while striking out six in three innings of shutout relief.

The Rambelles are off this next weekend before they hit the road to Oklahoma to face Cameron and Oklahoma Christian on March 4th and 6th.
