Rams Win LSC Title After Doubleheader Sweep of the Falcons

ODESSA, Texas – The 10th-ranked Angelo State baseball team swept two games over UT Permian Basin on Saturday, clinching the Lone Star Conference crown and the series over the Falcons at Roden Field.
 
With one game remaining in the regular season, the Rams hold a 39-10 overall record, going 37-10 in conference play.
 
Game One: ASU 16, UTPB 6
The Rams made quick work of UTPB to begin the doubleheader, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Koby Kelton started things off with a sac-fly to right field, scoring Austin Beck while Jordan Williams hit an RBI double, and Jackson Hardy singled for two more runs.
 
Kelton added another RBI in the second inning, singling up the middle to score Charlie Bartlett who forced a walk to get on base.
 
The Rams continued to score in the third as Justin Harris hit a double to right field, bringing home Jordan Williams.
 
UTPB got on the board in the bottom of the third, hitting a solo home run to make it 6-1.
 
ASU extended their lead in the fourth inning, scoring six total runs, capped off by a grand slam from Harris to bring his RBI total to five in the game.
 
The Falcons got a few runs back, scoring five off a two-RBI single and a three-run homer to cut the lead to six runs.
 
Kyle Moseley picked up his second win of the season to improve to 2-2 as he tossed 3 2/3 innings in relief with only two hits and five strikeouts. Starting on the mound was Aaron Munson who threw 3 1/3 innings with seven hits and three strikeouts.
 
ASU added one run in both the fifth and sixth innings while scoring two in the seventh to close out the game.
 
Game Two: ASU 17, UTPB 4
The Rams had another quick start in game two, scoring six runs in the first inning. Jordan Williams hit a two-RBI single while Justin Harris and Tyler Boggs both recorded RBIs with a double and a single respectively. The Rams added two more runs on wild pitches by the Falcons.
 
After scoring one run in the second, the ASU extended its lead even more in the third, adding four more runs including a three-RBI home run by Justin Lee.
 
UTPB added one run in the third and another in the fourth before closing out their scoring in the fifth with two runs.
 
In the top of the fourth, Boggs hit a sac-fly before Ryan Neitsch doubled down the left-field line to score two runs, giving the Rams a 14-2 advantage.
 
Neitsch added another RBI in the sixth, hitting a single down the left side before coming around to score on a wild pitch.
 
Picking up his 10th win of the season was Jake Rogers who threw five innings of work with seven hits, four runs, and two strikeouts. Parker Tennill pitched two innings of relief, allowing only two hits.
 
The Rams will close out the regular season tomorrow as they face off against the Falcons one last time in game four of the series beginning at 1 p.m.
