Lubbock, Texas – The Angelo State softball team closed out the regular season this afternoon with a doubleheader against 13
th-ranked Lubbock Christian, where the Rambelles took game one 10-6 before dropping game two 9-4.
Lindsey Evans started the scoring in game one with a squeeze bunt in the top of the first inning to score
Ashlyn Lerma.
The score stayed 1-0 in favor of the Rambelles until the fourth inning –
Ashlynn Box led the inning off with a walk before pinch-runner
Maleya Burns would score on a fielding error.
Madison Fernandez would ground out to drive in the inning's second run, making it 3-0.
The Rambelles would follow with five runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to eight runs.
Lerma led the inning off by reaching on a Lady Chap error, scoring two batters later via an Evans home run. Box and
Keilei Garcia followed with a walk and a single before scoring on a Fernandez home run, the second one of the inning for the Rambelles.
The Lady Chaps would respond with a pair of runs to stave off a run-rule in the fifth before tacking on three more runs in the sixth, bringing the score to 8-5.
A walk, a single, and a Lady Chap error in the top of the seventh loaded the bases for
Bailey Martinez, who promptly drove in a pair of insurance runs for the Rambelles.
Genesis Armendariz picked up her 19
th win, allowing nine hits and five runs over six innings.
Ashton McMillan pitched the final inning in relief, allowing one hit, one run, one walk while striking out one.
The hosts started the scoring in game two, using a walk and a pair of singles to load the bases before scoring on the second walk of the inning. Despite the rocky start, Rambelle starter
Torrey Hogan got out of a bases-loaded, no-outs jam allowing only the lone run.
The Rambelles would immediately respond with a Box home run to lead off the second inning, tying the score.
The hosts scored four runs in both the third and fifth innings to put the game beyond reach for the Rambelles, who scored a run in the third inning and two in the sixth inning.
Box went 3-for-3 from the plate in the second game while the rest of the lineup combined for only three hits.
The Rambelles finish the regular season 38-9 overall and 22-8 in conference play. They are back in action next weekend at the LSC Tournament, hosted by regular-season champions UT Tyler.
