DENTON, Texas - The Angelo State women's soccer team clinched a top-four spot in the Conference tournament with the 1-0 victory over Texas Women's in Denton this afternoon.
Â
The Rambelles improved to 8-6-4 and 7-2-3 in Lone Star Conference play following the victory. The Pioneers fall to 11-2-4 overall and 6-2-3 in Conference action.
Â
A shot by
Grace Jordan in 3rd minute would result in a corner kick for the Rambelles. After a few bounces in the box, the ball would find
Grace Jordan's right foot, and she would get past the TWU goalkeeper to put the Belles up, 1-0.
Â
Texas Woman's best chance of scoring in the first half would come from Arianna Arboleda, who would have a shot that Rambelles goalkeeper
Amber Lockwood saved.
Â
In the second half, it was mostly defensive for both sides. The Rambelles would only register two shots in the half compared to Texas Woman's three. A last-second prayer from Celeste Beltran was the best effort of the half for the Pioneers, but a save by
Amber Lockwood would secure the victory and a Playoff host for the Rambelles.Â
Â
Amber Lockwood would record four saves on the day, and her seventh shutout of the year was the team's 9th.Â
Â
The Rambelles have a four-game win streak and five straight shutouts going into the LSC Tournament.
From Head Coach Travis McCorkle: In order to confirm to have a home game, we had to win. It was a great effort by the girls to come here and knowing what we had to do. It was a great goal by
Grace Jordan to put us up early. We had to match the effort TWU this game, and we did that. This was a tough game going into the postseason because of how good the team is and the circumstances going into the game. I'm proud of the girls for getting their second win on the road we have a fourth straight win, and our defense has been playing really well with us having our shutout streak compared to how the defense started at the first of the year.
Â
The Belles will host the quarterfinal round of the Lone Star conference championship on Monday, November 6th, at 7 p.m. The conference will release the seedings later tonight.
