SAN ANGELO, Texas – A late rally by the UT Permian Basin Falcons gave the third-ranked Angelo State baseball team its first loss of the season as the Falcons down the Rams 14-7 at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium on Friday afternoon.
With the loss, the Rams move to 8-1 overall and in Lone Star Conference play while the Falcons move to 4-5.
The Rams scored the first run of the game in the second inning as
Weston Valasek scored during a pickle play at second base for the early lead. ASU tallied four runs in the third off a sac-fly by
Tayten Tredaway and a single by Cain before two runs scored on an errant throw by UTPB.
Valasek added another run for Angelo State in the fifth with an RBI single while Beck made it 7-0 in the sixth with a single to left field.
Aaron Munson started on the mound for the Rams, tossing seven innings with only one hit and no runs while tallying eight strikeouts with no decision on the day.
After a scoreless seventh inning, UTPB put up nine runs in the eighth inning as the Rams walked six batters while throwing three wild pitches, two of which brought in a run. The Falcons added five more in the ninth, capped off by a three-run home run over the left field wall.
The Rams and Falcons are back at it tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
