Odessa, Texas – The Angelo State softball team rebounded from their opening weekend of Lone Star Conference action this past weekend with a 10-3 win over UT Permian Basin on Tuesday afternoon in Odessa.
The Rambelles' 10 runs are their most in a single game this season, while their 13 hits are tied for their most in a game this season. Additionally, ten of their 13 hits came from spots 5-9 in the lineup.
The win sees the Rambelles improve to 9-6 on the season and 1-3 in LSC play.
The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning courtesy of a pair of singles, a double, and a wild pitch. However, the Rambelles would score the next ten runs in the game, unanswered by the hosts.
Right fielder
Ashton McMillan recorded the first hit of the day for the Rambelles, a one-out double to left field; she would score on the double by
Ashton Dirner. The Rambelles recorded seven doubles in the contest, their most in a game this season.
McMillan led the fourth inning off by being hit by a pitch; she stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Dirner before scoring on a
Bailey Martinez double.
Martinez herself would then score on a
Tatiana Trotter double to the left centerfield gap to give the Rambelles a 3-2 lead.
The Rambelles maintained that lead until the sixth inning, with singles by Martinez, Trotter, and
Katie Burris loading the bases for
Ashlyn Lerma, who drove in a run by drawing a walk.
Trotter would score on a balk before pinch runner
Layni Tanner would score on a wild pitch;
Keilei Garcia would drive in the final run of the inning on an RBI groundout.
Dirner led the final frame off with a double, scoring later in the inning on a Trotter sacrifice fly. Burris would double before scoring on
Jasmine Warriner's first hit as a Rambelle, a double, in what was her first at-bat.
Malloree Smith would drive Warriner home on her first collegiate hit to finish the scoring.
In her first start of the season at first base, Martinez led the Rambelles offense as she went 3-for-4 from the plate. Dirner and Burris went 2-for-4 each while Trotter went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly.
Genesis Armendariz picked up her fifth win of the season, allowing four hits and two runs in 5.1 innings of work; the junior struck out five Falcons.
Cheyenne Floyd pitched the final 1.2 innings in relief, allowing two hits and a run while striking out three.
The Rambelles and the Falcons will close out their series tomorrow with a doubleheader slated to start at 2 p.m.
