No. 5 ASU Sweeps Doubleheader over Eastern New Mexico

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The fifth-ranked Angelo State baseball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, winning 5-1 and 17-1 at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
 
The Rams start the season 3-0 as they go for a series sweep on Sunday.
 
GAME ONE:
ASU opened the scoring in game one in the second inning as Kamden Kelton singled to center field to score Tayten Tredaway. Thomas Cain added another run in the third, singling to bring home Tripp Clark.
 
Kade Bragg started on the mound for the Rams, tossing six innings with only one hit and three walks while totaling 10 strikeouts. He earns the win in his first appearance for the Rams.
 
In the fifth inning, Cain tallied his second RBI of the game, hitting through the left side to score Jackson Hardy before Tredaway hit a two-RBI sacrifice fly to right field.
 
ENMU tallied their one run of the game on a solo shot over the right field wall in the top of the seventh.
 
GAME TWO:
Justin Harris got things going in game two, hitting a two-run homer to right-center in the bottom of the second inning.
 
ASU poured on the runs, scoring five in each of the next three innings. Tripp Clark added two runs in the fourth with a home run over the left field wall while Weston Valasek hit a two-RBI double in the fifth as the Rams coasted to a double-digit victory.
 
Also making his ASU debut on the mound was Braxton Pearson who started game two, throwing five innings with only three hits and one earned run while adding five strikeouts. Jackson Berry and David Dressendorfer each pitched one inning in relief without a run.
 
Harris collected five RBIs on the day while going 4-for-4 at the plate followed by three RBIs from Valasek and two from Clark and Tredaway.
 
The Rams and Greyhounds close out the series tomorrow with game four scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
