Lawton, Okla. – At the conclusion of a back and forth contest that included 11 lead changes, the Angelo State women's basketball team found themselves on the losing end 56-54 in another tight matchup with Cameron Thursday evening in Lawton.
The Rambelles fall to 19-5 on the season and are now 14-4 in Lone Star Conference play. Win number 20 stays just one win away as the Rambelles have lost two consecutive games for the first time this season. With the win, Cameron improves to 11-13 on the year and 8-10 in conference action.
40 MINUTE RUNDOWN
- Landry Morrow hit a jumper at the 5:09 mark to see the Rambelles ahead 6-0 after a stellar start to the game defensively, not allowing the Aggies to score until the 4:53 mark.
- The Aggies would then Rattle off seven straight to take a lead before Sawyer Lloyd and Keniah Williams combined for five points down the stretch as the Rambelles took an 11-7 lead into quarter number two.
- As the teams battled early in the second, Lloyd finished a layup, which marked her 10th point at just the 6:44 mark in the second, Rambelles leading 16-11.
- The Blue and Gold surged ahead by seven, but the Aggies again showed their resiliency, scoring eight straight to take a 19-18 lead with 4:35 to go before the break.
- Lloyd, Morrow, and Madeline Stephens would score for the Rambelles, who took a narrow 26-25 lead into the half.
- Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant scored her first bucket of the afternoon just under two minutes into the third, giving the Rambelles an eight point lead, 33-25.
- Cameron would close out the quarter on a 15-6 run to take a slim 40-39 lead into quarter number four.
- Lloyd started out the fourth with a triple, marking her 20th point of the evening and giving the Rambelles a 42-40 lead.
- The teams traded buckets back and forth, Lloyd and Aicha Ndir made back-to-back shots to give the Rambelles a slight 50-47 advantage with 3:58 remaining.
- The Aggies secured five consecutive offensive rebounds as the clocked ticked down, Cameron was able to finish their sixth chance to go up three, 55-52.
- Lloyd would hit one final bucket, but a final Aggie free throw kept the Rambelles at bay, the hosts victorious, 56-54.
GAME STATS
- Lloyd had a game-high 24 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists as she played all 40 minutes for the third time in the last five contests.
- Stephens was the only other double-digit scorer as she flirted with another double-double after scoring 10 points and pulling in nine rebounds.
- McGhee-Pleasant made her biggest impact cleaning up the glass as she grabbed 13 rebounds to go along with five points.
- The teams nearly matched one another in many shooting statistics, the Rambelles shooting 31.8 percent from the field, while the Aggies shot 31.7 percent.
- Cameron earned their rebounding advantage when it mattered most and ended up with 47 boards to the Rambelles 44.
- The teams were never separated by more than eight points and juggled the lead throughout the contest with 11 total lead changes.
- This marks the first time the Aggies have swept the season series over the Rambelles since the 2014-15 season.
