No. 3 Rams Sweep UAFS with 21-11 Win in Game Four

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The third-ranked Angelo State baseball team completed the four-game sweep of UAFS on Sunday, winning 21-11 in seven innings at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
 
The Rams are now 17-3 on the season and have recorded three sweeps out of five weekends.
 
ASU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Weston Valasek singled to right to score Austin Beck before Thomas Cain added a run and Tyler Boggs bunted for an infield single to score Valasek. The Rams doubled the lead in the second inning, scoring on a wild pitch and RBI hits by Tripp Clark and Jordan Williams to go up 6-0.
 
The Lions got two runs back in the top of the third, hitting a two-run home run. In the bottom half of the inning, ASU extended the lead to 10-2 with four more runs, two coming off doubles by Reese Johnson and Clark.
 
The Rams hit back-to-back homers in the fourth inning as Beck hit a three-run shot to left center before Guerrero homered to left field.
 
Mason Bryant picked up his third win of the season for the Rams, throwing 4 1/3 innings with five runs off five six hits and nine strikeouts.
 
UAFS kept up the fight, hitting three home runs in the fifth inning for a total of seven runs while adding two more in the six to make it 14-11.
 
Valasek added a run for ASU in the bottom of the sixth, hitting a sac-fly to right field before the Rams finished with six runs in the bottom of the seventh, capped off by a two-RBI double by Clark to end the game.
 
Hunter Mayo threw 2 1/3 innings in relief, allowing two runs on four hits while collecting four strikeouts.
 
Clark finished with four RBIs followed by three from Beck and Johnson. Guerrero was five-for-five at the plate, scoring all five times.
 
The Rams are on the road next weekend as they continue Lone Star Conference play at Oklahoma Christian beginning Friday, Mar. 10.
