Rambelles Sweep Dustdevils in Doubleheader

Laredo, Texas – The Angelo State softball team extended their winning streak to four games with wins in both games of their doubleheader against Texas A&M International in Laredo, winning game one 9-0 in a five-inning run-rule victory before claiming game two 3-2.

The first game of the day remained scoreless through the first two innings; Ashlyn Lerma drew a walk and stole second to lead off the third inning, advancing to third on a throwing error on the play before scoring on a squeeze bunt.

Paxton Scheurer, the next batter, homered to make the score 3-0.

Bailey Martinez and Keilei Garcia drew walks and advanced on a sacrifice bunt, with Martinez scoring on an Ashton Dirner RBI single.

A walk to Tatiana Trotter loaded the bases before the second walk for Lerma in the inning scored another run and forced a Dustdevils pitching change.

The sixth and final run of the inning would score when a pitch hit Lindsey Evans with the bases loaded.

Martinez led the fourth inning off with a single, eventually scoring on a fielder's choice; Dirner would deliver an RBI double to plate a run before pinch-hitter Layni Tanner singled in Dirner to bring the score to 9-0.

Lerma reached base three times and stole two bases, while Scheurer, Martinez, and Dirner each reached base twice.

Cheyenne Floyd picked up her eighth win and her first complete-game shutout of the season, only allowing one hit and four walks while striking out eight batters.

Lerma led game two off with a single and stole second, and for the second successive game, Scheurer delivered a two-run home run to give the Rambelles the early lead.

The third inning would see Lerma lead off with a single before stealing second base and advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt, eventually scoring on a Dustdevil error.

The Dustdevils struck for a run in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 3-2, and with two runners on and only one out in the sixth, Floyd came into the game in relief of starter Torrey Hogan to record the final five outs of the game and keep the score at 3-2.

Hogan collects her seventh win of the season, allowing one walk and five hits across two runs while striking out six in 5.1 innings; Floyd tallied her fourth save of the season, only allowing one walk and one hit in 1.2 innings.

Lerma notched three of the Rambelles' eight hits and stole three bases. She is now on 55 stolen bases this season, the third-most in a single season in the program's history, and only four swipes away from the record.

The Rambelles improve to 28-18 on the season and 20-15 in conference play; they go for the sweep against the Dustdevils tomorrow at 11 a.m.
