KINGSVILLE, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team dropped game one of the series against Texas A&M – Kingsville, falling 9-8 at Nolan Ryan Field on Friday night.
With the loss, the Rams move to 33-6 overall on the year and 31-6 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Rams opened the scoring in the top of the first inning as
Jordan Williams hit a ball over the left field wall for two RBIs.
After the Javelinas made it 2-1, the Rams added another run in the third as
Justin Harris hit a double down the left field line to score
Weston Valasek.
Valasek scored another run in the fourth on a wild pitch while
Tripp Clark homered in the fifth to give the Rams a 5-1 advantage.
The Javelinas made their move in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring four runs capped off by a two-RBI double to tie the game.
Aaron Munson started on the mound for ASU, throwing five 1 /3 innings with five runs on six hits to go along with six punchouts.
After
Austin Beck added a run in the seventh on a single to left field, Harris collected another RBI in the eighth with a triple before coming around to score on a wild pitch.
TAMUK cut into the lead in the eighth with a sac-fly before closing the game out with three runs in the bottom of the ninth, winning on a single up the middle.
The Rams and Javelinas continue the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
