Rambelles Fall In Lone Star Conference Opener

AUSTIN, Texas - After a trip to Austin, the Angelo State women's soccer team fell to St. Edward's 2-1 Wednesday evening.

The Rambelles fall to 1-5-1 on the season and are now 0-1-0 in Lone Star Conference Action. St. Edward's improves to 2-1-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in LSC Action.

In a similar contest to the Belles's previous match against Fort Lewis, the Belles defense gave up the contest's first goal in the 11th minute on a shot from outside the box by Maddi Davis.

Sixteen seconds after the Hilltoppers score, the Belles come back with a goal by Allyson Reed from outside the box assisted by Mia Czarnecki. Allyson Reed recorded the first goal of her collegiate career, while Mia Czarnecki recorded her team-leading third assist. The goal was also the Rambelles first in four matches.

The Belles would accumulate six shots in the first half; the Hilltoppers took three. Daria Schlumbohm would save three of the six shots in the first half for the Hilltoppers. The Belles would have three shots in the second half, with none being on target.

The Blue and Gold will be back in action at home on Saturday, Sept. 23rd to face Midwestern State in an LSC bout slated for 1 p.m. kickoff.

From Travis McCorkle: "Unfortunately, more of the same, we gave up a goal in the first 12 minutes. We answered 16 seconds later to tie the game. We need to improve the simplicity in defending, not getting split and falling back. It's not for a lack of work. The girls are still committed to the team and the season. We need to get better. We do not need to allow so many turnovers and still think we can get results. We need to improve on both sides of the ball to get back to where we need to be".
