Rambelles Claim Fifth LSC Regular Season Title in Program History

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Angelo State women's soccer team defeated UT Tyler 3-0 to claim it's fifth regular season Lone Star Conference title in program history.

The Belles will head into the LSC Tournament with an 11-1-5 overall record and 9-0-3 in conference play, while the Patriots finish the season 10-4-3 overall and 5-4-3 in LSC action.

Angelo State didn't wait long to take the lead against UT Tyler as Sanai Stewart made a run into the box, collecting a pass from Madison Bourzikas before scoring the first goal of the match in the 19th minute of play.

Despite being down early, the Patriots kept up the fight, rattling four shots within the next ten minutes until a misplaced pass gave the Rambelles the ball back. On the counter-attack, Madison Bourzikas would run down the right flank cutting into the box and sending the ball into the top left corner to give the Rambelles a 2-0 lead in the 30th minute.

In the second half, Freshman Madison Bourzikas scored her team-leading fifth goal in the 54th minute after a shot rebounded off of the goalie finding Bourzikas's right foot to give them a 3-0 lead.

The Rambelles would park the bus in the remaining 30 minutes of action with the Patriots only shooting eight times in the half and one being on target.

The Belles would end the game with 11 shots and eight of them being on target, compared to the 19 shots with 7 of them being on target for the Patriots.

Amber Lockwood would once again be between the sticks for the Rambelles. After recording seven saves in the contest she would record her 10th shutout tying her for the conference lead.

The Rambelles will end the regular season with the top-rated defense in the league, allowing only 8 goals in 16 matches. They will receive a first-round bye in the tournament. The newly renovated LeGrand Soccer Complex will be the host site of the semifinal and final round of the LSC tournament on Nov.15th and Nov.17th.

From Travis McCorkle: Q: Your champions how do you feel? "I am glad we got the game in and Tyler had another field to use, with their main field being unplayable.  Sanai's goal was a fantastic finish to get us started. She has had that same finish 1000 times in training. The goal from Bourzikas right after that fantastic run gave us a good feeling going into halftime. We had to make adjustments with the ref calling a close game going into the second half. Amber was incredible today with the saves that she made that match could have been different today I can remember three of them right off the top of my head especially the diving play from the free kick right outside the box. It's nice to see us scoring multiple goals in consecutive games, that is something we did not do too often at the beginning of the season. I'm excited to host the tournament and being in front of our fans the girls love playing at home in front of them it's going to be exciting.
