No. 22 Rambelles Drop Doubleheader to No. 8 Patriots

Tyler, Texas – The Angelo State softball team suffered their first two losses in Lone Star Conference play this afternoon against eighth-ranked UT Tyler at Irwin Ballpark on Saturday afternoon, dropping game on 5-3 before falling in game two 6-1.

The Patriots opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. However, the Rambelles immediately responded with a pair of runs themselves, doing so on a Keilei Garcia home run and a Carter Smith fielder's choice.

The hosts would strike for a run in the bottom half of the inning to reclaim the lead before pushing two more across in the bottom of the sixth.

A two-out rally in the seventh saw Averie Gunther triple and score on a Tatiana Trotter single, but that is where the scoring ended.

Cheyenne Floyd took her first loss of the season, allowing six hits and five runs (three earned) while striking out five in six innings of work.

The Rambelles got on the scoresheet first in game two, with Garcia leading off the inning with a walk before scoring on a Laylonna Applin double.

The Patriots would score six runs across the next four innings to claim the 6-1 win.

Averie Gunther suffered her first loss in the circle for ASU, allowing six hits and four runs (three earned) in five innings; Matie Wolkow and Amelia Hatthorn pitched the final inning in relief of Gunther.

The Rambelles are now 15-3 on the season and 6-2 in LSC play; they close their series against the Patriots tomorrow, with gametimes starting at 1 p.m.
