SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State softball team picked up a pair of shutout wins on Tuesday afternoon versus Texas A&M-Kingsville, winning game one 2-0 before claiming game two 1-0.
The Rambelles' defense did not commit an error across 14 innings in the field and the pitching duo of
Cheyenne Floyd and
Matie Wolkow allowed only nine hits and three walks to neutralize a potent Javelina lineup.
In game one,
Zoey De Baca walked in the third inning and advanced on a
Layni Tanner single; pinch runner
Katie Burris scored on a
Carter Smith single to open the scoring.
The Rambelles tacked on an insurance run in the fifth inning, scoring on a bases-loaded walk drawn by
Laylonna Applin.
Cheyenne Floyd threw her first complete-game shutout of the season, allowing five hits and two walks. She stranded seven Javelinas on the basepaths. The win is the 13
th for Floyd, which leads the nation.
Game two was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when
Tatiana Trotter tripled to right field before scoring on an
Averie Gunther single to right field.
Matie Wolkow, in only her second start at ASU, threw her first complete-game shutout for the Blue and Gold, allowing four hits and a walk and striking out four Javelinas. This is Wolkow's first win at ASU.
The Rambelles are now 22-8 on the season and 13-7 in conference play; they go for the series sweep tomorrow at noon.
