AUSTIN, Texas – The 23
rd-ranked Angelo State baseball team split Friday's doubleheader against St. Edward's, falling 2-1 in game one before bouncing back to win 3-2 at Lucian-Hamilton Field.
With the split, the Rams move to 31-13 overall and 29-13 in Lone Star Conference play.
GAME 1: SEU 2, ASU 1
The Rams dropped a close one to start the day as the Hilltoppers put up two runs in the third inning which would be the difference in the game.
Dax Dathe started on the mound for the Rams, tossing seven innings with two runs on four hits while collecting eight strikeouts.
The Rams put up one run in the sixth inning as
Tripp Clark came around to score on a wild pitch.
GAME 2: ASU 3, SEU 2
After four scoreless innings, the Hilltoppers got on the board on a double in the fifth inning for the early lead.
The Rams answered back in the sixth inning as
Kamden Kelton singled to center field to bring home
Tripp Clark.
Ryder McDaniel followed that up by bringing in two runs on a bunt to give ASU a 3-1 advantage.
Braxton Pearson started on the mound in game two, tossing 6 1/3 innings with two runs on six hits while striking out six batters.
The Hilltoppers added a run in the seventh, scoring on a double.
Caleb Heuertz tossed the last two outs of the game, striking out both batters to seal the win for the Rams.
ASU continues the series against the SEU tomorrow with a single game beginning at 1 p.m.
