San Angelo, Texas - Following a successful weekend in which they finished their regular season with a six-match win streak, the No. 18 Angelo State women's tennis team looks to keep the momentum rolling as they head into the Lone Star Conference Tournament starting this Thursday.
The Rambelles would make it to the final of the LSC tournament last year after they defeated fifth-seeded UT Tyler 4-0 to advance to the semi-finals, where they would go on to take the top-seeded Cameron. The Rambelles would get the best of the Aggies, winning 4-3 to move to the conference championship match, where they would fall short 2-4 to St. Mary's. This would be the best finish in the conference tournament in program history.
The Belles will enter the tournament as the second seed; they open on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. with seventh-seed Texas A&M - Kingsville, whom the Belles beat 4-3 back on March 2nd.
If the Belles win, they advance to the semifinals to face the winner of the Cameron-Lubbock Christian matchup on Friday.
The Belles lone loss in conference play was to top-seeded Midwestern State, where they fell 4-3 in a tightly contested matchup.
The No. 18 Rambelles have
Letizia Corsini ranked 8th in the nation in singles after he impressive 19-0 regular season.
Eva Schwartz is ranked 53rd in singles going into the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
Eva Schwartz and
Avery Durham are ranked 16th in doubles after going 17-4 during the regular season.
Texas A&M - Kingsville is 10-9 overall and 4-6 in Lone Star Conference play. They lost to UT Tyler 1-6 in their final regular season. The Javelinas have two wins against ranked opponents compared to seven of the Rambelles.
Texas A&M - Kingsville Alessa Mier is ranked sixth in the IT singles ranking after going 17-2 overall. Alsessa Maier faced each other during the regular season on March 2nd, where
Letizia Corsini got the best of Alessa Maier 6-2, 6-1.
Texas A&M - Kingsville has the 15th-ranked doubles pairing in Milou Ter Morsche and Alessa Maier. In the match up during the regular season, the pairing of Milou Ter Morsche and Alessa Maier got the better of the Rambelles No. 16 pairing of
Avery Durham and
Eva Schwartz 6-7.
This will be the third time the No. 18 Rambelles will face Texas A&M - Kingsville in the playoffs.
