LAREDO, Texas – The Angelo State baseball team secured the series win over Texas A&M International on Sunday, downing the Dustdevils 7-5 in game four.
With the win, the Rams improved to 26-12 overall and 24-12 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Rams struck in the opening inning of the game as
Jacob Guerrero singled through the left side to bring home
Justin Harris. After back-to-back RBI singles by
Kamden Kelton and
Tayten Tredaway, ASU tallied its fourth run of the inning as Kelton stole home on a double steal.
The Dustdevils scored one run in the bottom of the first, scoring on a wild pitch, to make it 4-1.
ASU added a run in both the second and third innings, scoring on a double by
Tripp Clark while Valasek singled to center field for an RBI to extend the lead.
Johnny Stacy tossed three innings on the mound for the Rams, allowing no runs on three hits with two strikeouts to pick up the win.
International kept up the fight, putting up two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to make it a one run game with two innings to play.
The Rams answered back in the top of the eighth as Guerrero hit a solo home run to make it 7-5.
Earning the save was
Caleb Heuertz, throwing 2 2/3 innings with two hits and four strikeouts. In the bottom of the ninth, the Dustdevils loaded the bases before a strikeout by Heuertz ended the game.
The Rams will be back at home next weekend as they welcome in Texas A&M – Kingsville for a four-game series at Foster Field at 1
st Community Credit Union Stadium beginning on Friday, Apr. 12.
